The requirements for medical cover during professional boxing are clearly defined by the British Boxing Board of Control and require both a general doctor and a qualified anaesthetist to be present at each contest. There is concern within some areas of the medical community concerning the dangers of all contact sports, with boxing of all styles and martial arts being especially controversial. Professional boxers are widely aware of the risks of their sport and deserve proper, experienced and informed medical care throughout their boxing career. Full medical assessments are conducted prior to boxers being licenced by the Board, and regular investigations, monitoring and clinical examinations being mandatory. Medical presence at ringside ensure that experienced professional care is immediately available if needed. click to open link in new window back back copyright © Dr I.Fraser Duncan 2017.
